Central Broward Regional Park – For the first time in Broward County, the 7th Annual Haitian Independence Festival has a star studded event planned to entice people of all ages. After six years of sustainability Kaliko Productions has been committed to bringing one of the largest Haitian hosted events at the start of each year. Saturday, January 16, 2010 will mark the seventh edition of the Haitian Independence Festival and with the help of Voila, Kaliko Productions has lined up some of Haiti’s most talked about performers, as well as a few surprises that are sure to bring a different edge to the festival.
“Since we first began the Haitian Independence Festival, we wanted to have an event that stood out and represented our music. In the past few years we have opened the door to other cultures and we are excited to keep this tradition alive with every new year as we invite international artists that are popular in our community as well,” says Founder, Gerald Firmin. As a family-oriented event, this year the Haitian Independence Festival is excited to have the use of this 110-acre multipurpose facility located in the City of Lauderhill.
The Haitian Independence Festival has been a stepping stone for many young groups and each year major Haitian bands use the festival as a platform to officially release their Carnaval songs and this year will be no different. Bringing their talents to the stage for 2010 will be Djakout Mizik, CaRiMi, Nu Look, Bel Jazz, JahNesta, MikaBen, Kreyol La and Tempo. While artists like Black Dada will add more of a Hip Hop flavor, alongside Rap Kreyol sensations direct from Haiti, RockFam, and the music of Zouk performer Medhy Custos and Fanny will diversify the 7th Annual Haitian Independence Festival.
A thrilling halftime by DJ Nicky Mix and DJ Wicked, an advance admission of $30 and a bonus for all kids under 10 years old free, makes this year’s festival an attraction for every generation. As an added incentive the Kick-off Party on Friday, January 15, 2010 at Tatiana’s Night Club in Hallandale Beach Boulevard will have CaRiMi, Kreyol La and special guest Mika Ben all on one stage. Whereas on Sunday, January 17, 2010, as a Post Party celebration, Djakout Mizik and CaRiMi will be joined by Medhy Custos and Fanny at Café Iguanas to close out the weekends festivities in style.
