The Actors’ Aperture – Workshop at Ocean Spray, 5 to 13 December

The Film Group in conjunction with Marc Gomes of MG Studio LA has put together a 10 day intensive actors’ workshop entitled The Actors’ Aperture: Developing the actor?s work for the camera.

The Film Group?s Nala and Mahmood Patel met Gomes recently at a film conference and decided that the time was right to develop a deeper, more focused skill set specific to actors in the Caribbean Region.

The Workshop will run from Dec 5th ? 13th 2009 and will be held at Ocean Spray Apartments, Inch Marlow, Christ Church. This workshop is to be the first in an ongoing Actor?s Lab series which will focus on creating a formidable compliment to the emerging writers, directors and cinematographers from the region.


Nala ? One of the Founders of the Film Group, he has been pioneering Barbadian cinema since its inception in 2004. He has been teaching workshops and working towards the creation of an acting style called ?Being Anansi? for over 12 years.

Marc Gomes – Has extensive experience in acting for television having had roles in numerous TV shows such as Babylon 5, Living Single, Soul Food, JAG, Medium and many more. He now owns and runs an acting studio in Los Angeles (; which focuses on teaching the actor to Go Beyond the “Central Casting” version of the Role and communicate a fuller expression of themselves.

Sample Schedule:

Days 1-3

The Work of the actor. (Where, who, what, why)

The job of the actor: to be grounded, open and communicative.

Highlighting the various elements with a specific focus using the actor?s connection with physical awareness as the touchstone.

Create a personal diagnostic for the actor to assess him/herself.

Day 7-10

The actors now go from rehearsal to production. Actors are assigned a shooting schedule for days 9 & 10.

Rehearsal focuses on the very practical aspects of working for the camera.

Sessions and Times

The workshop will be divided into two 3 hr sessions each day – a morning session from 9 am – 12 pm and an evening session from 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm in order to accommodate the working population.

On Saturdays and Sundays, the evening session will be held from 2pm – 5pm.

NB; Both sessions cover the same material each day – i.e. the evening session is essentially a repeat of the morning session – so there is no need to sign up for both.
