The Literary Arts desk of the National Cultural Foundation will be hosting a Panel Discussion at the Grand Salle on Thursday November 12, 2009 at 7:00 pm.
The discussion is entitled: ?The Role and Responsibility of the Writer in Shaping the Identity of a Developing Society?.
The panelists will speak to areas of the written word including aspects of the media and performance as well as the traditional role of the writer and how the interface and interpretation of their works by the public affect notions of identity. Panelists include:
? Mr. Robert Leyshon:- University of the West Indies Lecturer in Literatures in English, Chief judge of NIFCA Literary Arts season 2009 and director of the Cave Hill Theatre Workshop.
? Ms. Esther Phillips: – Acclaimed published poet. Head of the Department of English at the Barbados Community College. Founder of Voices, Writers Collective.
? Adrian Green: – Performance and Spoken Word Artiste, Educator, Producer.
? Trevor Marshall: – Historian, Cultural Anthropologist and Educator.
? John Sealy: – Editor and Journalist.
All members of the public are invited to attend to listen, confront and engage panelists as we seek to negotiate the impact of the writer on our perpetuated self perceptions.
