Every year I have told a story in honour of the Celtic New Year, what Druids call “Samhain” or turning of the wheel (In Gaelic, wheel is Yule, thus we have a confusing Christmas reference of ‘Yuletide‘ – in other words Jesus was probably Libra or earlier… Not Capricorn! There was no January nor July in the calendar yet, back then).
It is said the dead walk the earth as the portals between living and beyond are weakest at this point, so what old folk would do is dress like the creatures to fool them they were kindred spirits, literally, and thus the custom of dressing up for All Hallows Eve.
The first story was kind of inspired by Blade – but with Caribbean mythology like Nalo Hopkinson, then last year I chose a Tales of the Unexpected type of story where Brotherly Love has new meaning…
This year I dip back four years ago when I was caught up with Smallville and also caught up in family intrigue and wishful thinking, and thus the following tale which is presented differently than previous years…
Before you read, if you’re wondering why all of the True Blood pictures? First it is Hallowe’en and secondly I got hooked on the series to the point where I got some Sookie Stackhouse books for my birthday and I plan to review them soon! Meanwhile? Enjoy!!
