Launch of the Caribbean Mixologists Guild ? Pour Me A Drink? Association gets toast from Barbadian Tourism group

Bartenders in Barbados play a key role in the development of this island’s tourism and hospitality industries. Through their interactions, they can enhance or diminish each visitor?s total experience. With creativity, skill, charisma and excellent customer service, they serve as ambassadors and key revenue drivers for their establishments.

For this reason, a team has worked diligently over the past year to form an association that would focus solely on the development of this key resource. This team is a diverse group of hotel and restaurant bartenders, bar managers, bar owners and bar service providers who all share a single passion ? dedication to advancing the local bar industry.

Now, the CARIBBEAN MIXOLOGISTS GUILD (CMG), the Caribbean?s newest professional association for bartenders, has become a reality. CMG provides a network for sharing ideas on developing the bar trade, and a training ground for regional bar talent at all skill levels.

Sue Springer, Executive Vice President of the BHTA, said: “I applaud this initiative. This is just what the industry needs, and the BHTA is in full support.”

In September 2008, the group of hotel and restaurant bartenders, bar managers, bar owners and bar service providers now known as the CMG Charter Committee started meeting to lay the groundwork for CMG.

In November, they were able to take advantage of a visit to the region by Peet Warmerdam, the Global Brand Ambassador for DE KUYPER Liqueurs, who was in the region to conduct a series of cocktail training seminars with bartenders. Peet shared the experience he gained from his tenure as President of the Dutch Bartenders Association so that CMG would be able to take the first steps to becoming a world-class organisation.

The heart and soul of CMG is cocktail creation. Attendees at the Media Launch enjoyed two summer cocktails ? one sour and one sweet ? which were created by Jamaal Bowen, Bartender at SANDY LANE RESORT and a CMG Charter Committee Member.

Pride of the Caribbean

  • 1.5 oz. BACARDI Silver Rum
  • 1 oz. PAMA Pomegranate Liqueur
  • 2 oz. Mango Juice
  • 1.5 oz. Passion Fruit Pur?e
  • Fresh Lime Juice
  • Simple Syrup

Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake vigorously and strain into a tall glass. Garnish with an orange slice and a cherry.

Coolin? Vibes

  • 1.5 oz. BACARDI Silver Rum
  • 1 oz. DE KUYPER Cr?me de Bananes
  • Fresh Mint
  • Fresh Lime
  • Simple Syrup

Pour all ingredients into a shaker with ice. Shake gently and strain into a short glass. Garnish with a lime slice and a cherry.
