Cellular Fraud reaches Barbados – LIME denies false charges on victim’s account

Cellular Fraud reaches Barbados – LIME denies false charges on victim’s account

BlackBerry+Storm

Got an e-mail from a concerned reader, I thought it was one of those Snopes-busted scams but this one seems new, not only that I saw this number on my Digi mobile and refused to answer simply as I did not know the number, I thought they can leave a voice mail, but they never left a message…

Here’s the original e-mail I received;-

All 3 cell phones in this house also got these calls on the weekend, but because this is the second time we’ve had this happen we knew not to answer.

Got duped the first time because we were out and thought it may be an emergency call from overseas family – the line always hangs up when you answer and when you call back you get a recording and the $ are adding as the seconds are ticking.

We reported to LIME and they noted the numbers and ensured we were not charged.

So apart from my own near miss, this trick has happened with so many LIME users, one of their staff decided to send a note for some of their mobile subscribers;-

Guys:

Pass on to your friends urgently, I received a call from +393193260033 on Sunday and the person hung up.

If you return this call you will be billed US $18.00 per minute.

I have confirmed this with our Fraud department.

Please do not dial, but delete and let you friends know!!!
