BARBADIAN ARTIST INVITED TO SHOW WORK IN TRINIDAD – Sheena Rose to exhibit animation in Woodbrook
Sheena Rose, one of the artists participating in the public art projects at the Black Diaspora Visual Art Symposium and Exhibition has been invited by Trinidad artist Christopher Cozier and architect Sean Leonard to show her animation “TOWN” at the Alice Yard Space in Woodbrook, Port-of-Spain.
Alice Yard is an experimental forum for young and emerging artists. Mr. Cozier, a guest panelist at the February 2009 Black Diaspora Visual Art Symposium organized in Barbados by the National Art Gallery Committee, first saw ?TOWN? when it was shown in the window of Collins Pharmacy in Bridgetown and at the Grande Salle during the Black Diaspora event Ms. Rose will also participate in the CARICOM Regional Advocacy Campaign Development Workshop and UNDP Knowledge Fair Conceptualization Workshop, May 25 ? 28 in Antigua where she will present her ideas on ?innovative multi-media, cultural, ICT and other strategies to reach the target audience?. Ms. Rose, who specializes in animations, is a recent graduate of the BFA Studio Arts Programme at Barbados Community College. Since graduating she has shown work at the Zemicon Gallery, the ?Sign of the Times? digital art exhibition at Queen?s Park Gallery and produced the animated video “Town” for the Black Diaspora Visual Arts Symposium and Exhibition, curated by David A. Bailey in February 2009. Sheena?s participation in the Workshops and at Alice Yard was funded in part by the UNDP (United Nations Development Programme) Barbados and the OECS.
