Simon and Garfunkel still rule – Sounds of Silence from Barbadian Mainstream Media and Gov’t for closure of Graeme Hall Sanctuary: 1 month, 5 days

Harlan Ellison once had a science fiction tale called “I have no mouth, and I must scream” some 41 years ago – perhaps the title may be equally apt for Barbados’ media fraternity in its deafening silence over the continuing closure of the Graeme Hall Nature Sanctuary? They know blogs exist – at the Advocate and Heat, they occasionally remind the public of their existence. While at the Nation, they can see the blogs, steal their stories, but NEVER mention them except for negative connotations.

As far as I know, CBC and VOB have NEVER mentioned the blogs’ existence at all!
Well, we’re still here, and I wanted to know what’s happening with the Sanctuary, so I sent an e-mail to Harry Roberts the Manager, but so far I have heard nothing. Unfortunately, nothing is also what the current Government appears to be doing about the last piece of greenery between Bridgetown and the Airport.
What happened to John DaSilva’s Facebook group? Billy’s sound and fury as expounded in Lear?
If the blogs do not continue to fight the good fight, and if DaSilva’s group do not make waves? We all should signify nothing and we all should stop blogging …. Forever.
As for me? There is so much beauty and peace worth fighting for there in that Christ Church hallowed ground! It’s like what Churchill stated in the House of Commons 69 years ago;-

we shall fight on the seas and oceans, we shall fight with growing confidence and growing strength in the air. We shall defend our island, whatever the cost may be. We shall fight on the beaches, we shall fight on the landing-grounds, we shall fight in the fields and in the streets, we shall fight in the hills. We shall never surrender!
