Raku Demonstration – All fired up for clay with Juliana Inniss
Come see the dramatic process of Raku firing. Raku is an ancient technique of firing ceramics. Glazed ceramic ware is heated to just under 1000 degrees Celsius, it is removed from the kiln and placed into cans containing combustible materials, such as saw dust and newspaper, these materials ignite and — then magic happens! Come and experience Raku!
Pass St David’s Church (heading towards Frere Pilgrim) continue along the road. Look for a sign indicating SMALL RIDGE (this is just before approaching Eddy village and the junction to Frere Pilgrim) turn right off the main road onto a cart road, follow the road in to the first cluster of buildings on your left, drive into the yard. Coming from the east go past the riding stables at Frere Pilgrim, around the bend and take the cart road on your left.
Ceramic items and flowering orchids will also be available for purchase.
