In the Barbadian capital, weather makes River Road live up to its name as Lazaretto wall collapses

The Daily Nation looked at some of the flooding when Tropical Depression #15 hit Barbados –

Apart from the residential areas in St Michael, some businesses were also hard hit and Pizza Man Doc’s Baxter’s Road branch was closed from 11 a.m. due to flooding throughout the entire first floor.

Owner, Gray “Doc” Brome said it was a problem he faced every time there was heavy rainfall and cited drainage and a badly built road as the reasons.

The entrance to Hilton Barbados was swamped as well as the car park of their neighbour Grand Barbados forcing staff members to wade through knee high water, while over at the nearby Island Inn, the road was impassable for pedestrians.

Judy Thomas director of the Department of Emergency Management identified River Road, Constitution River and the Queen Elizabeth Hospital, The City; Salters, St George and Rendezvous, Christ Church as problem areas.

However, for their online edition, no mention was made of how the Lazaretto Wall collapsed in Blackrock and now that road is closed for both North and Southbound traffic, even worse? It seems the closure will remain in effect until further notice, here’s what one resident told the Bajan Reporter –

I was trying to get home this morning, when the wall fell across the road above Esso Blackrock across from Lazaretto.

Had to abandon the car and walk home through water to my knees. Not as much fun as it sounds, hope everyone else got home unscathed.
