(modified – for overseas readers) WAIT, I HAVE NO STATUE SO NOW YOU SHUN ME? TAKE A LOOK AT THE GARRY SOBERS ROUNDABOUT
You realise what with the traffic nightmare in what used to be the “Bermuda Triangle” out by Sagicor HQ’s near the Pine, where there was a flyover now no flyover, that the area where the Sir Garfield Sobers statue used to rest is now resembling a baby Amazon rainforest? The Sir Garry statue meanwhile is well-maintained outside the redesigned Kensington Oval, but the point is – the roundabout was named in the Right Excellent’s honour and it’s being dishonoured IMHO!

Even in the dead-tree media, there have been calls for roundabouts other than this to be spruced up – not unreasonable since every November for almost a decade and a half there have been lights decorating every roundabout from Independence to Xmas-tide. So, because now nothing adorns the place which bears his name, then the “island” can go to rack and ruin?

H’mmm – is there a moral in there somewhere? Somehow, I hope not!
what did they do with the statue?
