Digicel?s sponsorship of the world?s fastest man Usain Bolt which began in 2005, will continue until 2011 following the recent signing of a new contract. ?Our partnership goes back to his days competing at the junior level, and we are pleased to see him developing and fulfilling his potential,? said Digicel Jamaica CEO David Hunter.

The title of ?World?s Fastest Man? is the third in a series of world records since Digicel sponsorship began with Usain, who also holds records for the world youth and world junior 200m. Digicel look forward to further supporting Usain Bolt in his quest for the gold medal this summer in the Olympic Games in Beijing. ?We are very proud of Usain, and congratulate him on his wonderful accomplishment,? continued David Hunter.

Jamaican sprinter Usain Bolt broke the 100 meter world record on Saturday May 31st at the Reebok Grand Prix at Icahn Stadium in New York. He now holds the title as the fastest man on earth having beaten fellow Jamaican Asafa Powell and world champion Tyson Gay and setting the record at 9.72 seconds.

Digicel are not alone in their support for Usain, as Jamaican followers were out in force at the Icahn Stadium in New York, the majority dressed in the national colors, ? something to which Bolt attributes his success. ?I always perform good in front of my Jamaican fans,? said the 21 year-old, ?They?re so loud. And I like noise.?

Bolt remains humble in his victory, but is now looking forward to competing in Beijing. ?You’ve got to be Olympic champion or world champion to really count? he says, “I think the Olympics is the biggest thing, so I’m looking for that, definitely.”

Digicel enjoys a proud association with athletics throughout the region, including aspiring stars St.Lucian marathon runner Zepherinus Joseph and Caymanian sport shooter, Josephina McLean.
