The West Indies team had a lesson in the latest mobile technology courtesy of team sponsors Digicel, when they were given the opportunity to upgrade their Sony Ericsson handsets ahead of the second Digicel test against Australia.

The presentation of the SE K850i followed Digicel?s desire that the players and coaching staff should benefit from the company?s latest mobile solutions and be able to rely on a range of services and functions to be able to manage their business and personal lives while traveling away from home.

Ramnaresh Sarwan, current captain of the West Indies team was thrilled with his new handset commenting: “As cricketers we are away from home for long periods so keeping in contact with all parts of my life is hugely important. Lots of the players send picture messages to friends and family and the picture quality of a 5 mega pixel camera with Cybershot ? technology on the new Sony Ericsson handset is amazing. I can also listen to music through the MP3 player and keep up to date with news, cricket scores from around the world and other general information through Digicel Live. It’s a great toy!

The Sony Ericsson K850i boasts always-on high speed internet with 3.6Mbit transfer speeds as well as text messaging, picture messaging, music and email. The K850i is Digicel Live enabled allowing the downloading of ringtones, games and screen savers.

Kieran Foley, Head of Group Sponsorship for Digicel, says: “As sponsors of the Windies we are committed to providing the players and coaching staff with the latest telecommunications equipment so that they can efficiently handle all aspects of their business and personal lives while focusing on their cricket performance?.

Digicel also provided for the first time ever free high speed wireless internet at the media center of Sabina Park during the first test of the Digicel Home Series against Australia. The company to date has expanded into wireless broadband in Jamaica and the Cayman Islands in its goal to become a full service wireless provider across the region.

The Digicel Home Series 2008 against Australia will continue until July 5th taking place in Jamaica, Antigua, Barbados, St Vincent, Grenada and St Kitts. Full match schedules and daily news updates and images are available on Digicel Cricket’s website.
