What is true democracy? How a lone visible Bajan Blogger gets victimised for his accessibility

Many decisions were made deliberately from the time of conception of this News-Blog… I am a Government employee at the moment, and will remain so unless I become an overnight sensation with a juicy best-seller or three under my belt OR one of my family wins lottery (As a presenter, I have to stay away from the little slips of papers with chances at big money)… Therefore, what I cover has to be interesting without job-defying, I liked that challenge!

I also decided not to be daily or weekly, when there is something to say it’ll be said and in due order – thus I avoided the pitfall, so far, of sidelines who were anglers!

What I find most annoying is in the history of building contacts to find items to hold your attention is that many of these folk are rather thin-skinned and more sensitive than a 2 month old toddler with colic!

I ran notices from Caribbean Airlines with a fair degree of regularity – until one early November day when four flights were scratched and I made editorial comments. Their Mktg Mgr was annoyed, made a clarification. Then, nothing for a while until an ad award was won by Dec. 6 and nothing thereafter – Are they out of business? No, then it must be COINCIDENCE, right??

Peter De Savary’s PR firm was an almost regular contributor, then in October I bitched about not being a team of Caribbean journalists visiting De Savary’s investments, while I am not active in the media here I was on vacation at that point and was available for the visit – I was even asked back in June 2007 and I told them to give me the dates and I’d make myself available…

Then in November I hosted links where the Grenadian opposition disputed claims from the ruling party over De Savary’s contributions in an item when De Savary bought expensive toys for poor Grenadian kids… Que Pase?

Huh, I was sent an update at end of November, two in December and two in January – the very last issued on the 9th of that first month of then so young 2008! Wrote them twice and heard once that mailing list was destroyed and would have to be recreated – we all know how long technology takes in redoing a mailing list, riiight??? H’mmmm

St Kitts, the UK and Nevis all have thicker skins – they have had articles where I take the mickey out of them and they still supply info on what areas they need the spread of knowledge.

Many Barbadian firms are rather like Caribbean Airlines and Port Louis, they only wish sweet nothings whispered to the public’s delicate, shell-like ears.

Why are you sending details then? No questions whatsoever? There should be a caveat; RUN THESE PRESS RELEASES AS IS, OR WE HAVE NOT ONE THING MORE TO SAY TO YOU, YOU CAN WONDER WHAT WE’RE UP TO FOREVER AS FAR AS WE’RE CONCERNED – YOU SHOULD HAVE KEPT IT TO MOIST BUTT-SMOOCHING, CAPISCE?
