Blooms: Heidi Berger art expo debuts in Speightstown next week

Heidi Berger is set to open ‘Blooms‘ , a showing of new work at the Gallery of Caribbean Art, Speightstown, Sunday, March 30 between 11am and 2 pm.

Heidi Berger, PhD has lived and worked in France, Germany, Mexico and Canada. She now divides her time between Barbados and Canada.

In her own words – I feel the need, particularly in times of unrest or sadness, to occupy myself with life-affirming images of calm and introspection. This show, Blooms, is the outcome of that.

Both in my earlier watercolours, and now in my larger acrylic canvases, I work with the concept of pentimento ? of underlying or older images showing through as ghost images ? using poured paint, graphite and charcoal words and marks, reworking scrubbed surfaces, and incorporating collage.

I have a penchant for earlier centuries, particularly the 19th, its literature and social life. Through the subjects represented in my paintings I seek to meld memories of the past with reflections of the present.

Barbados, my family?s second home, is ever-present in my work.
