Constable Sean John hailed as top Officer in Nevis
Police Constable Sean John was named the top constable in the Nevis Division of the Royal St. Kitts and Nevis Police Force for 2008. He received the top honour from a field of eight constables who were also awarded for 2007.
He was awarded during the fifth Police Appreciation Awards 2007 ceremony at the Old Manor Hotel on February 16, 2008 under the theme ?Building on five years of success through partnership?. Constable Leasa Daniel placed second while Constable Delroy Harris placed third.
In response to the award, Constable John said he had chosen policing because he wanted to make a difference.
?I just wanted to help people. Over the years it was very challenging and often times discouraging as well but I love what I do. I am touched by the expressions of satisfaction I get from the ordinary man and woman on the streets and in the communities I serve and have served in relation to my performance. They have been a source of strength and encouragement and have kept me going up until now,? he said.
The top Constable said it took a special kind of person, character and personality to be a police officer. The individual had to be principal centered and people oriented since policing was one of the few professionals which was all about people from the word go.
He said the award was not an indication that he should stop giving the quality of service persons had come to appreciate and expect from him and vowed to continue to perform in a manner befitting of a police officer.
?I would continue to perform in a manner which is becoming of a police officer, exhibiting the level of professionalism, character and discipline which is expected of anyone who wears the uniform,? he said.
He thanked the persons who he said played a critical role in shaping him and to the Lord for giving him strength and good health which afforded him the opportunity to realize his life?s dream.
?In that sense my life has been success thus far? I take this opportunity to say that irrespective of the challenges we are encountering both internally and externally we have a duty to perform and we ought to remember the oath which we took and be true to it whilst at the same time giving our support to our commissioner and other ranks and also our dedication to the common cause,? he said.
The Award ceremony is an annual event hosted by the Strategic Planning Group of the Nevis Police Division. The award was designed to motivate the junior officers during their tour of duty.
The other officers who were honoured for 2007 were Constables Ornet Hendrickson, Mitchell Hobson, Valentine Hodge, Alister Caines and Eurita Percival and Ray Gordon who were absent.
