CARJACKING IN BARBADOS? WEST COAST ROADS APPEAR TO BE UNDER SIEGE

Got an E-Mail a lot like one from late last year

YOU MAY WISH TO PASS THIS ON TO YOUR FAMILY, FRIENDS, BUSINESS ASSOCIATES AND CUSTOMERS TO INCREASE THE AWARENESS OF THIS SERIOUS ISSUE SO WE CAN ASSIST IN PUTTING A STOP TO IT –

As a matter of urgency I would appreciate it is you would advise all BSL staff and anyone you care about that this situation that is very real as we all NEED to be on our guard.

On Sat, Feb 2nd at approx 1:30pm I was on my own and travelling on Baker’s Road heading to Highway 2A when I was almost the victim of a car-jacking.

I had not long passed the area where there is a right turn in the road and a bill board for Heron Mill is on your right when a white sedan with yellow license plate G4??? approached me from the opposite direction and tried to stop my vehicle.

Thanks to Kay’s email of last week I immediately realized what was going on and flew past the 1st vehicle just thinking about getting to an area with houses and some sign of life.

Shortly after passing the 1st vehicle I approached another bend in the road and a 2nd vehicle again traveling in the opposite direction came around the bend and stopped directly on my side of the road.

I was so terrified that I pulled over to what would have been their side of the road and in my haste went off into the bush and then back onto the road and then travelled at top speed up to the junction at Highway 2A without even looking once into my rear view mirror. It seemed like an eternity before I reached that junction to Highway 2A and I must tell you that not one on coming vehicle passed me that entire journey. I was terrified and I just thought about getting to safety but after speaking to the police, Sam and Other people I realized that I made a couple of mistakes.

Just as Kay’s email jogged my memory I am hoping my email will help anyone who finds themselves in this unfortunate situation.

Mr Headley, a CID officer strongly suggests that we all should have the 211 emergency # in our cell phones on speed Dial – immediately call this # while you are making your way to safe ground. The sooner you place this call the sooner they can dispatch someone to the location which may very well help them to catch the culprits.

Do not head home immediately if you live in the area instead head to a police station or gas station and explain what has happened in the event that they are following you.

I know it goes without saying but still PLEASE DO NOT STOP!!!!

I fully appreciate that time is of the essence in our busy schedules now and we ALL use these isolated Side Roads to avoid the hassle of traffic etc but I strongly suggest that we need to stop this practice especially when we are driving alone.

There is no safe time – this happened to me at 1:30pm!!!

  1. that is highly disturbing

  2. My husband travels 2A daily; for that reason I would just like to say that relevant stories and information such as this should be on the front page of our papers…NOT stories about missing Pig Tails and other insignificant rubbish. Thank you for bringing this info to the publics attention.

  3. Thanks for telling us about this Ian and sorry to hear of your experience. Just goes to show that Bim may not be quite as law-abiding a place as they give us to believe!! Anyhow, I’ve informed BFP, in their latest Liat article (today) who may give it greater publicity, or may not!!

You know, dey can b very ‘funny’ over dere, sometimes!!!! 🙂
