Young Jamaican Publicist takes off – from Jah Cure to Digicel, she handles it all!
Alexander wept when there were no more worlds to conquer and he was only 25; Napoleon became a General at 24 – so why can’t a Jamaican publicist earn two sweet contracts before she even sees 30?
Alison Young (in name and nature) is currently hopping from island to island tracking Digicel’s Kick Start Football Clinic, she started Alykhat PR and now needs an assistant to keep things running while she’s following all of the John Barnes action with the various teams thru the Caribbean.
Just 5 years ago, she did a 24 month stint with Jamaica’s top agent, Jerome Hamilton, and handled many top contracts while at – Babycham, Wayne Wonder, Sean Paul and Junior Gong are some of his client?le…
Back in Jamaica, she realised that folk there did not understand the concept of a strict Wedding Planner only, ppl there were either caterers, seamstresses AND a Planner!
So, with that attempt approached and set aside, she looked at expanding her horizons again, when she got a call from Jerome – her former boss – who said based on Alykhat interacting with entities like CMC, that Media Relations is exactly what Sunsplash needed back in ’06 and he thought Alison was best equipped to do it, especially since he was on other projects at that time!
So she did apart from taking on the Flashpoint as well last year and Alison’s been doing her own thing from since the middle of last year!
Dealing with a strong-willed Jah Cure as part of the VP Records lineup is a lot different from the structured approach from Digicel’s campaign, the telecoms giant has kept Alykhat PR’s plate full with not just soccer but the Dancehall Kings & Queens contest done with TruJuice and – but Alison appreciates all disciplines to make her stronger in handling any kind of a challenge the future can hold!
