An 18-member trade delegation from Britain will visit Barbados between 7 and 11 November. Barbados will be the second stop of a three-country tour which will also feature Trinidad and Tobago (3 – 7 November) and Jamaica (11 – 14 November).

Hailing from the London Borough of Croydon, the visit is being organised by Croydon Business Ltd which has brought previous delegations to the Caribbean under the name of Croydon Chamber of Commerce and Croydon Council. This visit will therefore be the fourth one to the Caribbean in recent years. Support for the delegation has come from UK Trade and Investment (UKTI), the government organisation that is working through the British High Commission in Bridgetown to assist UK-based companies doing business internationally and overseas enterprises seeking to locate in the UK.

The delegation’s leader is Angelina Purcell MBE, a former Chief Executive of Croydon Chamber of Commerce, who is of West Indian origin. She will be accompanied by officials from UKTI in London.

The trade delegation comprises companies offering a wide range of UK goods and services, including luxury food and drink suppliers; management and training consultants; low energy systems and equipment suppliers; a business partnership organisation; film and animation products for television, advertising and business purposes; toiletries; house building machinery; education and training for the legal profession; vocational training; a franchise facilitator; teas and herbs and dressing aids supplier in the form of the “Puller-Upper“.

Ms Purcell and UKTI officials are expected to meet with public and private sector organisations, including the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry, Barbados Small Business Association, Barbados Coalition of Service Industries and leading business houses. Delegation members will also pursue business appointments via individual programmes.

The British High Commissioner, Duncan Taylor, will lead a team that presents a market briefing to the delegation. This will include President of the Barbados Chamber of Commerce & Industry, RichardDickStoute.

One highlight of the visit will see delegation members participating in a free ?Drop-in Session? at the Accra Beach Hotel and Resort on Thursday, 8th November (8:00 am -11:00 am) to which members of the local business community and media are invited to attend.

The ‘Drop-in Session’s purpose is simple – to deepen business contacts, explore importing from or exporting to the UK, pursue potential joint venture initiatives and generally exchange business ideas in a relaxed and safe environment. Previous ?Drop-in Sessions? by visiting UK trade delegations have been well attended by local businesspersons and therefore successful in Barbados and other Caribbean countries.
