Two Popular Barbadian Supermarkets tout new Ice Cream Flavour – is it as good as the real thing? *PG-13*

With globalisation, the market for Barbadian tastebuds has become an ongoing fight, but how far do you carry the battle? We all know that Saskia Griffith used extreme sensuality to sell beers then chocolate much to many a male’s delight…

But do you capitalise on Bajan carnal slang to encourage ppl to want dessert? If you go to Big B or Tri-Mart, you’ll find there’s a new kid in townTip Top from New Zealand and the flavour they’re touting is called Hokey Pokey! As Al Gilkes used to say – true, true, true!

This is one of the brands and its flavours which greet you apart from ye olde Blue Bunny or Haagen Dazs and Bico, Flavorite et al. In the USA, I knew that pokey is slang for jail and also a claymation character – but one thing I learned as a child almost immediately at starting school in Barbados, is the Bajan definition of pokey [i.e. – vagina]!

Therefore it was quite natural when I saw this product that I burst out laughing, and just then I see a senior citizen start checking the ice-creams, so I asked the old man if he’d try it (pointed at it and grinned) and I swear to God he replied – I NEVER BOUGHT ANY POKEY YET; ALLA MINE FUH FREE **c a c k l e**

Plus, there on the label is this white chick looking as though she’s about to imitate Monica Lewinsky! So, if you have $21.99 to $24.99 to burn then try it and e-mail me!
