The art of the puppets is a form of Theater that dates back to 800 A.D. with its origins starting right in Sicily.

Recently scientists have discovered possible evidence of puppets dating as far back as age of Socrates. The other side of the Puppeteering art is the creation of the puppets. A team of artisans, painters and sculptors all came together to create a “Sicilian” puppet.

The marionette puppets are very intricate and beautiful. The visiting troop has been awarded the distinction of “Best performers” of all puppeteers in Sicily. They performed at the Universal Exposition of Seville and the Barcelona Olympics.

The head puppeteer Girolamo Cuticchio is currently the oldest living puppeteer in Sicily. In 2007 UNESCO chose “the Art of the Puppet” as its recipient of the Annual Immaterial Price of Humanity award. The presentation will also feature Barbadian artist David Kirton performing songs from his Fisher price licensed album ‘Island songs for children‘.
