Pyramid Artists make clean sweep in key categories of International Soca Awards
Biggie Irie?s “Nah Goin? Home” is the ?Soca Song of the Year?.The judges, fans and the audience at the fifth Annual International Soca Awards at the Rum Jungle Caf? in Queens New York were definitive in their choice on a night where soca?s superstars and stakeholders took centre stage for a well deserved bow.As if confirming the song?s staying power, across the seas here in the Caribbean ?Nah Goin? Home? grabbed the number one spot on MTV Tempo?s Cross Caribbean Countdown the previous week.
A further honour was the invitation by organizers for Biggie to perform the track which remains in heavy rotation on local and regional radio stations and in Caribbean programmes in the UK and America. The song was also judged ?Favourite Groovy Song of the Year? ? a fitting award for Biggie?s current title of 2007 Groovy Soca Monarch.
The strong Barbadian representation did not end there; Peter Ram?s ?Woman By My Side? remix ? a collaboration with Trinidad?s Shurwayne Winchester ? was judged ?Best Soca Collaboration?.
Continuing in the spirit of honouring veterans and encouraging new soca talent, 2006 Party Monarch Winner Barry Chandler of the band ?Jabae? was named ?Best New Male Soca Artiste? with ?Flames?.
