Remember how Damon Corrie persuaded sponsors to help purchase D. Blades Trophies for an Amerindian version of the Olympics as a means of keeping South American native youths from turning to crime and/or drugs? What is new? Any results or photos yet? We e-mailed Damon these questions and eventually got this response –

I am 100 yards from the Brazil border right now seeing if I will get Makushi footballers to return with me to play the girls football match on Pakuri, so far all cross country, canoe races, Cricket and football (except the 13-19 girls) have been done OK. Still have archery etc to do.

The Men’s football was one by the Team who’s uniforms were sponsored by Jeff Goss of the Cherokee Nation of the USA – but the names for the other events are in my big red book on Pakuri – where I will not return to
until this weekend at the earliest.

PS – One American citizen played on the Cherokee Team for that match which was last Sunday – a Peace Corps volunteer stationed in the village at present!

Highlights of all events and presentations to the winners are being recorded on Hi8 tape for editing upon return to Barbados so sponsors can be provided copies.
