Ten Competitors are ready – DIGICEL?S RISING STARS IS BACK TOMORROW
THE popular Digicel Rising Stars talent has returned, it took both Barbados and the OECS by storm since 2005, resumes tomorrow Sunday, August 12 on CBC TV with the first semi-final broadcast at 9.30 p.m.
This Sunday?s show will see ten talented Barbadians Raphael Saul, Barry Griffith, Nelika Watson, Bianca Boyce, Shirley Bowen, Shauntelle Thornhill, Rhesa Garnes, Tamesha Toussaint, Niska Best and Britney Mayers, vying for two spots in the regional final.
Digicel?s head of marketing, Faye Gill, explained that the ten contestants were chosen from among those who auditioned in Barbados in June: ?Sunday?s show will be very exciting and we are encouraging all Digicel customers to watch and vote to ensure that their favourite contestant makes it to the final.
?All they have to do is text the word VOTE to the corresponding number for each finalist or call the number from their handset. Each text cost 75 cents and each time they vote, they will be entered into a weekly draw to win great prizes. Voting begins on Sunday at 9.30 p.m. and closes on Friday, August 17 at 4 p.m.? Gill said.
Saul, 19, who enjoys signing and listening to Gospel music, will perform ?Number One Fan? by his idol, Canton Jones, while the other male finalist, 28-year-old Griffith, who likes all types of music and is influenced by Bryan McKnight and John Legend, will croon Stevie Wonder?s ?Lately?.
Twenty-six-year-old Watson will challenge the other competitors with Jewel?s ?Foolish Games?, 21-year-old Boyce with Whitney Houston?s ?I Have Nothing?, while Whitney Houston fan Thornhill and 23-year-old, Bowen, will both render their versions of Josh Groban?s ?You Raise Me Up?.
?You?re Gonna Love Me?, sung by Jennifer Holiday and more recently by former American Idol contestant Jennifer Hudson will be vocalised by two contestants, 22-year old Garnes and 31-year old Toussaint.Best, 24, hopes to win a spot with her rendition of ?Tonight? by Escape as does the lone youngster in the competition, 17-year-old Mayers who will deliver ?The Weakness in Me? by Keisha White.
