Cable & Wireless Barbados is extremely satisfied how their network performed during and after the passage of Hurricane Dean.
Ed Layne, Vice President Network Services said, ?Our fixed line and mobile networks performed magnificently under the stress of significantly increased usage. We experienced no significant congestion on the fixed and mobile networks.?
Speaking after the Cable & Wireless Damage Assessment Team completed their final report, Mr. Layne confirmed that, ?There was no structural damage to our towers or mobile antennae and the few leaning and downed poles were quickly removed and made safe for travelling public.?
Cable & Wireless has a comprehensive disaster preparedness plan, which covers every aspect of the company?s operations.
Among the other areas implemented in preparation of Hurricane Dean was the rerouting of local customer service calls to other Cable & Wireless call centres in the region. This is a reciprocal arrangement, which was activated as the system moved through the region affecting St Lucia, Dominica and Jamaica.
The company?s disaster preparedness plan is often tested prior to the start of the Hurricane Season. C&W?s programme also extends to its customers with the placement of public service messages providing useful pre- and post- hurricane tips.
