Barbadian injured at Guyanese Beauty pageant – 16 year old who won will be heading for Middle Kingdom
Controversial and prominent designer Kingsley Thorne was a judge recently at Miss Guyana World which was held at Buddy’s International Hotel in Providence, East Bank Demerara, and according to Stabroek News he was almost decapitated –
The pageant, for the second year running, was marred by poor organization. A shift of venue from Pegasus to Buddy’s did little to change things. The host, boxing promoter Carwyn Holland and hostess Wanita Huborn failed to lift the spirits of the audience frustrated by a faulty PA system and poor stage management. At one time things got so bad that while patrons were having their dinner the lights went out and cell phones lights had to be quickly switched on. Then, during the swimwear segment, one of the balloon lights fell off the ceiling, hitting one of the judges – Barbadian Kingsley Thorne. If franchise holder Derek Moore hopes to gain any credibility he would need to change a lot of things and maybe fire a few persons.
It was a 16 year old who won that night despite the glitches –
…Candace Charles was crowned Miss Guyana World 2007 just before midnight on Sunday last at the Buddy’s International Hotel, Providence, East Bank Demerara.
Clearly the choice to represent Guyana at this year’s Miss World Pageant in Sanya, China, Candace sailed through the competition like a veteran and her answer to the final question came with perfect ease. Not only did her figure compliment her swimsuit, but Candace’s elegant evening gown, which she displayed gracefully, was a winner.
