Manager at Barbadian Theatre Stage Venue disputes rental fee: says Bajan playwright out of order
Glenville Lovell has been getting mucho mileage here at BR and some of it has rubbed the wrong peeps the wrong way! Fran Wickham-Jacobs, the sultry voiced Manager at Frank Collymore Hall has totally refuted comments Glenville made at the end of February – her comment was listed after that particular interview but for clarity’s sake we list it separately –
I refer to your interview with Glenville Lovell in the latest issue of ArtsEtc. in which he incorrectly quotes the cost to rent the Frank Collymore Hall as approximately $20,000.
This is grossly incorrect, the rental fee for any single event is $1,800/4 hour block. “Going for Love” ran for a total of five shows with three (3) long rehearsals. This misinformation only serves to discourage the unknowing and distorts the actual fact.
For further verification, you can check our website which lists our rates. Of course additional charges would be incurred by individuals or groups depending on the technical equipment they may use for their production.
To put on a production of this kind, besides the venue rental, the budget would include set design, set, publicity, costumes, props, crew…
To have singled out the Hall over all the other expenses was unjust on Glenville‘s part, especially since we gave Sayge a further discount, in light of the fact that they were a new company and wanted to encourage them in their new theatric venture.
