Last night, February 28th, the Ottawa Senators concluded their three-month Hockey Night in Barbados contest, when they sparred against the Carolina Hurricanes in a specially themed salute to Barbados match. Senators owner Eugene Melnyk and his fellow judges crowned one of three finalists as Sens Army Captain. The winner got a trip for two to Barbados from March 7 to 11, 2007.

The Canadian multi-millionaire along with Bert Inniss, founder of Bert’s in Barbados, and Sandy Sharkey, co-host on 93.9 BOB FM’s The Morning After, chose a winner from finalists Beth Evans, Ryan Guthrie and Shawn Uhrich. The three were sifted from hundreds who submitted video clips showcasing their team spirit around the theme of Hockey Night in Barbados. Senators fans determined the finalists through online voting and in-game text messaging in January and February

So, who WON???

The judges unanimously chose to name Ryan Guthrie from Almonte, Ontario, the Sens Army Captain and winner of a trip for two to Barbados. Deciding that Guthrie would need help spreading Sens spirit, Melnyk surprised fellow finalists Beth Evans and Shawn Uhrich with a trip to Barbados as well. Welcome, folks!

Hi to everyone out there in paradise.

As you can see Eugene Melnyk, owner of the Ottawa Senators decided to send all 3 finalists to Barbados. My sister Mary Sue and I had such fun with this contest. The voting for 48 hours though was a killer. We hardly got any sleep along with family and friends voting voting voting. We were thrilled to find out that I had made it to the finals.

Thanks to everyone that voted out there and if you can make it please stop by Berts Bar this Thursday March 8th to say hi and watch the Sens/Leaf game with all of us.

    Cheers! Beth Evans
