Two cups and The Earthrace too? Whuh’s dat den?

If I could take holidays during March and/or April? I would have, but due to the nature of my work I can’t, so I have to prepare with my colleagues for the onslaught of calypsonian Malik‘s best beloved topic as well as the sport of Kings down at the Garrison!

So why am I not surprised to learn there’s another sport coming here in March as well, but this is one that I never heard of until now, called Earthrace – it reminds me of Thor Heyerdahl‘s epic journey on papyrus rafts and Barbados was one of his stops…

This sojourn will start and end here, according to the report from a Maltese online newspaper…

NEW RECORD

The vessel plans to circumnavigate the world but via ecologically sound methods using biodiesel to propel itself across the planet’s waters…

Earthrace plans on finishing in less than 65 days, and will be the first to attempt to circle the globe using only renewable fuel. Earthrace will begin the race March 6, 2007 from Barbados making only twelve stops during the circumnavigation. At each of the ports Earthrace will be picking up the sponsor, refueling, and gaining provisions.” The trimaran plans on finishing here as well!

These boats look like something out of a science-fiction book, even as to how the vessel is fueled, as one organiser noted – “Promoting biodiesel on an international level and in such a spectacular and unique manner is something truly admirable
