BCS Breast Screening Programme’s new Theme? Think Pink, Think Passion, Love Life!

Pink Ribbon Week, October 5th to 11th launches the Barbados Cancer Society’s Breast Awareness Campaign. They start their week of activities with a Thanksgiving service at St. Patrick’s Roman Catholic Church on October 5th at 7 am, they continue to the Garrison Savannah for the National Walk at 4 pm. The week concludes with Pink Friday on October 10th and their last free Breast Screening Clinic in association with Cemix at Carlton AI Supermarkets on October 11th.

The weekend of October 5th Caribbean islands will come together to raise awareness for all types of cancers and proceeds will assist various NGO’s in the region. Last year was the first year that CIBC FirstCaribbean and the BCS Breast Screening Programme held its National Walk for Breast Cancer Awareness and an estimated 3000 persons took part. Funds raised helped the Breast Screening Programme to purchase a new Computer Aided Diagnostic Tool, worth $50,000.00 USD and they were also able to donate $15,000.00 each to “Little Pink Gift and Bosom Pals” We could not have done this without the support of CIBC First Caribbean, Corporate Barbados and the public.

The marketing campaign is out in full steam and there'll be two separate radio ads to promote the walk which you will hear shortly. Special thanks to Mr Ian Webster, Imani, Mikey, Mr. Anderson "Blood" Armstrong, Faith Callendar, PC Broomes, Gerald B Sounds, Slam City Studios.

Under the new slogan “Think Pink, Think Passion, Love Life” the BCS Breast Screening Programme in collaboration with CIBC First Caribbean we will be hosting a 5k Run or Walk on October 5th starting from the Garrison Savannah. There will be two Music trucks provided by Gerald B Sounds, entertainment by various artistes, a dedicated children’s area sponsored by Faces of Color by Lana Jones and IG Entertainment.

This will allow families who will like to take part but unable to run or walk to be a part of the activity. Our official water is Highland Spring Water which will be on sale as well, and for every bottle sold a donation will goes towards the Breast Screening Programme. Registration for the walk is 20 dollars. One way we have been able to keep this at an affordable cost to the public is through the generous donation by GILDAN Active Wear.

This year we placed a greater emphasis on Pink Friday October 10th, and encourage corporate Barbados to purchase shirts for staff in support of Breast Cancer Awareness. Employees’ will not only be able to wear the shirts on Pink Friday but also for the walk. These shirts will be produced locally by River Bay Manufacturing and pre sales orders now stand at 1,800 shirts…

In the next couple weeks the public will be hearing of two campaigns by the Barbados Cancer Society to raise awareness of Women’s Cancer. One will be led by¬†Globeathon while the other is a regional initiative led by CIBC FirstCaribbean “Walk for a Cure“.
