A talented young Barbadian saxophone player Mylon Clarke is on his way to study at the Berklee School of Music in Boston USA where he will take part in the prestigious 5-week summer Jazz Workshop. He is the winner of a scholarship sponsored in December 2013 by Sagicor Christmas Jazz and the United States Embassy to Barbados and the Eastern Caribbean
The scholarship, worth $20,000 BBD, includes full tuition compliments of Sagicor Christmas Jazz, air transportation, accommodation, and all meals compliments of the US Embassy, and $300 in music supplies compliments of A&B Sounds. A panel of four judges made the selection from a group of talented applicants that included saxophonist Joseph Callender, pianist Raphael Hinds, and vocalist Kiann Browne.
Mylon is a graduate of the Barbados Community College School of Music. He is one of a group of promising young Jazz graduates that now play at various venues in Barbados, as the island enjoys a resurgence of Jazz.
On the eve of his departure, the Barbados Jazz Society presented Mylon with a cheque to assist with his expenses in the United States. President Ann Smith said that the Society was pleased to continue its support for local jazz musicians and the promotion of live jazz in Barbados.
