38 year old owner of “The Gold Place” facing “Cash For Gold” charges

Police have arrested and charged James Blackett, 38 years, owner of The Gold Place, located at Bridgetown, for 3 counts of Failure to Pay by Cheque, as set out in the Precious Metal and Second Hand Metals Act. He appeared at the District A Magistrates Court on Saturday June 7th 2014, and was granted bail in the sum of $5000.00 to return to Court on September 3rd , 2014.

On 3 occasions, Blackett would have authorized cash payments to customers for the purchases of precious metals from them, instead of payments by cheque as prescribed by Law.

Barbadians areĀ reminded they must be paid by cheque when selling precious metal to dealers. They are also reminded that they must produce and present their National Identification Card, a valid Passport or Drivers Licence when conducting such business.
