Smartphone users in Barbados will now have even greater 4G connectivity thanks to the widespread upgrade recently completed by number one mobile telecommunications provider, Digicel.

Over the last few weeks, the company successfully completed upgrades in several areas around Barbados, making good on a promise made earlier this year by CEO, Mark Linehan, to invest heavily in providing customers with the enhanced data connectivity they have been craving.
Over the last few weeks, the company successfully completed upgrades in several areas around Barbados, making good on a promise made earlier this year by CEO, Mark Linehan, to invest heavily in providing customers with the enhanced data connectivity they have been craving.

Customers outside of the comprehensively covered parish of St. Michael can look forward to faster 4G speeds and more reliable connectivity when at home or on the go, with upgrades being made to sites at Edgecumbe, Boarded Hall/Watts Village, The Mount and Groves in St. George; Mile & A Quarter and Black Bess in St. Peter; Carrington/Brereton and Harrow in St. Philip; Farley Hill and Belleplaine in St. Andrew; Guinea in St. John; Vaucluse in St. Thomas; Bissex Hill in St. Joseph and Rising Sun/Lowland in Christ Church.

Technical Manager with Digicel (Barbados) Limited, Dwight Grannum, said the upgrades are in line with the company’s push to meet the needs of its customers and their ever-increasing appetite for data connectivity:

Data usage by our customers is growing rapidly, a trend we have been monitoring closely on our network and of course the fact is that the majority of the handsets on our network are now 4G capable smartphones. Today’s user is increasingly interested in utilizing mobile apps for their daily activities, accessing web based information on the go and of course staying connected 24 hours a day through the use of social media. As a mobile provider we need to be always one step ahead in delivering on the needs of our customers ensuring that we provide the platform for them to perform these activities wherever they are on the island and as such we are committed to continually improving the strength of our network across the island.”

Grannum also stated that within the next week customers in Sturges and Highclere in St. Thomas; St. Peter’s Bay, St. Peter and Kent in Christ Church, would also be seeing the benefits of the network upgrade as 4G will become available in these areas.
