BARBADOS RUGBY TEAM MEET THEIR HONG KONG FANS

The downpour of rain did nothing to dampen the spirits of the thousands of Rugby Sevens fans who flocked to Hong Kong Stadium last weekend. Underdogs Barbados, sponsored by Timothy Oulton, put up a valiant fight at their first ever Hong Kong Sevens.

Meeting a sporting hero is always a thrill so we made our 'Meet the Fans' day a real celebration. Hosted at our three-storey gallery in Wanchai, champagne flowed and a cheese platter was devoured by everyone except the team, who were on strict instructions from Coach Whipple to stick to water - fantastic willpower if you ask us.

Excitement filled the room as a group of 10 year old star-struck boys took selfies with the team. One of the boys traded his toy for the much bigger prize of a signed t-shirt from Vice Captain, Sean Ward. Hong Kong’s Merci magazine and Editors from Sassy, including our new Honorary Ambassador Dervla, also came down and hit it off with lads.

Staff at Timothy Oulton were rooting for them all the way, along with some sterling supporters who got to meet the team at a special event held at our St Francis Street gallery, two days before the games began.

When we asked Coach Whipple which team he’d most like to play, he promptly answered “the finalists“. Well sadly that dream wasn’t realised this time but Barbados certainly played with undeniable spirit against Zimbabwe, Russia and Chile. In the end, the mighty All Blacks from New Zealand took the winning title but bravo to Barbados for making their Hong Kong Sevens debut with passion. We wish them all the luck for the Commonwealth Games.
