Statement on the Anniversary Day for the death of Venezuelan leader Hugo Chavez

Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration, Friends of Venezuela Solidarity Committee, Cuban Barbadian Friendship Association and other progressive groups in Barbados will remember and reflect on the life and contribution of Hugo Chavez. We will also join with the Pan African Coalition of Organisations (Barbados) at the African Spiritual Ceremony for Chavez and recognize the contribution of our Revolutionary Brother from the Americas.

The progressive organisations of Barbados stands in solidarity with the party of Chavez, the United Socialist Party of Venezuela, the Communist Party of Venezuela and all progressive parties in the Americas that are leading the Bolivarian Movement in the Americas and defending the poor and powerless in our region.

Our movements also join with the peace loving people of the world to strongly condemn the continuation of violence and vandalism caused by irresponsible elements of the right wing opposition forces in the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

The Friends of Venezuela Solidarity Committee calls on the Labour Movement in the Americas to dedicate the 1st May 2014 (Labour Day) the day of defense of the Bolivarian Revolution and solidarity with the poor and powerless in the Americas. We also want to use this opportunity to call for the holding of a Caribbean Solidarity Meeting with the Government and People of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.

Long live the sprite of President Hugo Chavez.

Long live the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela.
