The National Union of Public Workers (NUPW) wishes to advise Public Officers who have been offered positions with the Barbados Revenue Authority (BRA), that a number of matters still need to be addressed before options on working with the new entity can be exercised appropriately.

The General Secretary has further advised that approval for secondment must be sought and granted by the Personnel Administration Division before Officers can take up employment with the BRA. Officers are therefore warned to seek the appropriate permission from their employer – the Public Services Commission prior to being seconded.

Accordingly, those persons who have not been placed with the BRA either due to not having been invited to work under the new entity or have rejected that offer, are directed by the NUPW to report for duty, as usual, on Tuesday 1st April 2014 UNLESS otherwise directed by the Chief Personnel Officer.

Public Officers are asked to take note of the fact that the relevant Act must be proclaimed into law before the BRA can engage itself as a legal entity to replace the various Legacy Agencies.

The NUPW is cautioning that, given the sensitive nature surrounding the transition, all matters arising out of the exercise must be addressed before the commencement date of the BRA can be established. Failure to do so will create fundamental problems for the new entity.
