NATIONAL UNION OF PUBLIC WORKERS DIPS ITS FEET TOWARDS INSURANCE: 22nd MAR. HEALTHY EXPO IN DALKEITH MARKS LAUNCH OF CONGLOMERATE

With non-communicable diseases among the five leading causes of death in Barbados during the last decade, the island’s largest public sector trade union is collaborating with two major industry stakeholders to bring greater awareness to the issue and the solutions available to prevent, treat and manage these conditions.

NUPW Insurance Agent Inc., a company formed by the union, in collaboration with ICBL and Tenet Healthcare Corporation of Florida will be hosting a Health and Lifestyle Expo on Saturday, 22nd March at its Dalkeith Road Headquarters.

Chairman Cedric Murrell says the health and wellness of its members has always been a priority for the institution which is celebrating its 70th anniversary this year and he noted that the event forms part of the celebrations kick-starting Public Service Week.

“Our priority is the health and well-being of our members and this health fair helps us promote the benefits of a healthy lifestyle, not only to our membership but the broader population,” he said.

Mr. Murrell said the Health and Lifestyle Expo will feature a combination of health screenings, seminars conducted by local and visiting physicians on stroke awareness, cardiovascular disease, prostate and breast cancer, managing stress. There will also be exercise routines featured by Bootcamp and Zumba instructors from Barbados and Florida.

Tenet Florida comprises nine acute care hospitals with 10 sites of service. Tenet Florida hospitals form one of the largest award-winning healthcare networks in South Florida, and are conveniently located in communities throughout Miami-Dade, Broward and Palm Beach counties.

The Health and Lifestyle Expo is free and open to all Barbadians.
