As a Type 42 destroyer, HMS Edinburgh provides the backbone of the Royal Navy’s anti-air capability. In addition to her air defence role, the Type 42 destroyer can operate independently carrying out patrol and boarding operations, having carried out anti-narcotics and anti-piracy patrols in the Gulf, Caribbean, and the South Atlantic as well as providing humanitarian assistance when required. “The Fortress of the Sea” was the penultimate and largest of the Type 42 destroyers built for the Royal Navy at Cammell Laird shipyard in Liverpool. She is the sixth Royal Navy ship to bear the name and was launched by Lady Heseltine in 1983.
The local Presidents XV will comprise members of the national squad who are deep in preparation for an upcoming test match against Curaçao in April. The competition is expected to be quite fierce and passionate, as the local men will be anxious to cement their places in the National Senior Team, while the visitors will be determined to represent Queen and Country on the rugby pitch.
