95 medals to be awarded at Diamond Jubilee Celebrations on Montserrat

A total of 95 medals will be awarded for outstanding service to officers in the Royal Montserrat Police Service, the fire and prison Services and the Royal Montserrat Defence Force, as part celebrations to commemorate the 60th year of the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.

Queen Elizabeth II is only the second monarch to reach their Diamond Jubilee. The first was Queen Victoria, who served from 1837 to 1901, a total of 64 years, according to Montserrat's Governor. (At Left in this File Image with Premier Ruben Meade)

Along with 200 other nations in the world, Montserrat will light the World Jubilee Beacon on June 4 outside the Montserrat Cultural Centre at 7:30pm. This will be followed by a fireworks display, His Excellency the Governor Adrian Davis confirmed.

The Jubilee medals will be handed out on June 7 at Government House while the Queen’s Birthday Parade is to be held on June 16 at Little Bay. The Diamond Jubilee Party will be on June 21 and it is the intention that June 18 be a public holiday.
